KAPOW! London 2011 = Review

On Sunday I went to Kapow! A new Comic-con in London at the Design Centre sponsored by IGN.

I've been to London Comic Festival and other comic/ scifi exhibitions including all three Dr Who exhibitions/ museums in the UK, (GO ME, It is actually my greatest achievement in life so far!) and with a geeky family with major knowledge in all things comic/movie/gaming related I'm no noob!

For start the Design Centre was such a great choice of venue. Although not particularly large, this is the first Kapow! So they obviously wanted to start small and concise, and they definitely did that! If you don't know what the Design Centre is like inside then here it is all set up for this year's Kapow!

This picture is facing the entrance. showing the middle tier with the retailers on, at the end where the IGN ball is floating it drops down to the IGN Arena.

I liked this setup as you could walk round the top tier and see everything and you could easily find your way everywhere even if you weren't using the map in the leaflet, which was a bonus for me as I probably would of ended up in the kitchens or something!
On entrance you got a goody bag of posters, latest movie cards and the general leaflet of the major IGN stalls. Then you walk in to the IGN arena where there were live interviews for the IGN podcasts/competitions happening and areas to test play new games including Portal 2!

I obviously was attracted straight away to the Tardis in the centre...

OOHHH! And it was the 11th Dr's Tardis <3 Should of took my lifesize cut out of Amy Pond  :(

There was high quality of retailers, mainly the comic writers or illustrators themselves who were drawing at the table and you could buy their comics to have them signed there! The IGN arena was good as there was always something happening on the stage, and there was a coffee shop above it so you could chillaz up there and still see and hear what was going down! I stood in the crowd for some of the IGN Podcast, the panel with the cast of Misfits and the Cosplay competition.
(you can tell I was happy, the chipmunk cheeks appeared!)
Another good point was that you could have your hand stamped, leave and come back, yes most places do this but this was in a good location for food retailers and there is a near Nandos,
NO ONE can say no to Nandos!
The only bad point was the Auditorium and Gallery had special shows on at scheduled times and we wanted to queue up for the Secret movie X premiere (which ended up being 'Super') and the guide said you were not allowed to start lining up till 1.30, we go up at 1.20 to see where to line up and get moved on after queuing as we were too far back and it was max 500 people :( Major sadness, people had obviously started queuing up waaaay before!

Other bonus' of day were that I won an IGN tshirt at the IGN stand and I got my Photo taken and interviewed for Bizzare Mag LOL

The BEST part of the whole day for me was all the Cosplayers! The Cosplay competition was amazing and hilarious and I got some photos with a few of them too!
